Evangelism

Since its founding in 1981, Turning Point Ministries has been committed to sharing the Gospel through word and deed. Early initiatives included street evangelism, city-wide distribution of Bibles and prayer door hangers, mission trips, and compassion evangelism through distribution of food, groceries, and Christmas gifts. Today, evangelism continues in a number of ways:

STREET OUTREACH
Montrose Street Reach partners with TPMI/Somebody Cares Houston to continue the street evangelism of Turning Pointers who went out weekly on the streets of the Montrose neighborhood. Montrose Streeet Reach ministers to street kids by offering weekly “street church” meetings, meals, and assistance with placement into rehabs, transitional housing, life skills training, and pre-natal care. Many Turning Pointers and members of the Somebody Cares Houston network are involved in the ministry in various capacities.

OUTREACH PROJECTS
Our desire is to help individuals, communities and nations encounter Jesus Christ in all His mercy and grace. God’s love has the same transformational power today that it did 2000 years ago. Most recently, TPMI developed the Who Was Jesus? campaign as an outreach tool based on Doug Stringer’s book, Born To Die. The Who Was Jesus? booklet is written to help those who struggle with these questions and others as they search for Truth: was Jesus really was He said He was? Did He really have to die?

A simple way to meet people where they are with the transformational message of the love of Christ told through stories and testimonies of real peopleWho Was Jesus? can be handed out in neighborhoods, distributed at outreach events, and given to the members of your congregation to pass on to people they meet. By placing a sticker in the booklet with your church contact information, you are giving people a safe way to connect with you and your church/ministry as they begin their journey with the Lord. The booklet is most effective when those interested in learning more are offered the opportunity to dig deeper using the Born to Die book and study guide to lead people into a lasting relationship with Jesus Christ.

By sharing Christ through Scripture, personal testimony and prayer, we expect great things to happen in the hearts of those yearning to know God. If you desire to reach people for Christ as well, you can use these simple outreach tools to get started.

CRUSADES

Turning Point and Somebody Cares Houston have been involved in hosting various crusades throughout the years to reach the city with the Good News of Jesus. In 2015, Doug Stringer served as local chairman of the Reinhard Bonnke Crusade committee. The Crusade was held on February 20-21 at BBVA Compass Stadium, with more than 27,000 men, women, and children gathering those two nights, in spite of rain and threatening storms. Over 2,700 people gave their lives to Christ, along with re-dedications and testimonies of healing. The Houston crusade saw one of the largest crowds of the Bonnke Crusades in the U.S.
